TECORE Announces GPRS Enhancements for its AirCore Switching Platform

Company to introduce high-speed wireless data solutions at GSM World Congress
COLUMBIA, MD – January 28, 2000 – TECORE®, a leading supplier of software-defined, multi-service switching solutions for the converging wireless, wireline and IP networks, announced today the development of General Packet Data Service (GPRS) for its AirCore® switching platform to offer its customers a complete, high-speed data capable solution.

TECORE will be demonstrating its innovative switching solutions in booth #C50 at GSM World Congress, February 1-4 in Cannes, France.

GPRS is an important step in the evolution to third-generation (3G) by introducing packet data to mobile networks, fully enabling mobile internet applications and a wide range of advanced, value-added services. GPRS is also the ideal bearer for WAP applications, delivering anytime anywhere access to the end users.

Unlike other GPRS solutions on the market today which require operators to add new network elements, TECORE’s solution is based on the company’s existing carrier-class, high availability AirCore switching platform. TECORE’s GPRS solution is comprised of the Home Location Register (HLR), Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN), and Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN). Fully compliant to European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI) standards, TECORE’s SGSN/GGSN will interoperate with other vendor’s Base Station Subsystem (BSS) equipment. In addition, AirCore’s integrated prepaid solution will support GPRS subscribers to offer a significant competitive advantage.

"TECORE’s GPRS solution offers a complete, high-speed data capable solution to our customers," said Jay Salkini, president and CEO of TECORE. "By integrating GPRS capability into our AirCore product, TECORE offers unmatched value and flexibility to enable wireless operators to bring mobile internet to the market."

Founded in 1991 and based in Columbia, Maryland, privately-held TECORE is a leading supplier of software-defined, scalable switching systems for the converging wireless, wireline and IP networks. TECORE’s innovative AirCore Platform (patent pending) is the first switching platform on the market that can simultaneously support multiple wireless protocols, including GSM, CDMA, TDMA and AMPS, as well as wireline tandem and a fully integrated prepaid solution. AirCore offers compact footprint, comprehensive feature set, and cost-effective scalable capacity from 100 up to 100,000 subscribers. The AirCore Mobility Server and Gateway enables an IP-based GSM architecture to dramatically reduce the costs of deploying GSM service in the corporate in-building environment while maintain full integration with the GSM network. TECORE supplies its products to carriers in small to medium size, rural, and emerging markets through direct sales, system integrators, and OEM partners. TECORE is a leading supplier of GSM-1900 switching infrastructure in the small to medium size markets, working with operators in six states covering two million in POPS.
