TECORE to Showcase Switching Platforms at Wireless 2001

AirCore® at the Heart of Next-Generation Switching Solutions
LAS VEGAS – March 15, 2001 – TECORE™ , a leading supplier for software-driven, multi-service switching systems for the converging wireless, wireline and IP networks, will be demonstrating its wireless switching platforms based on its AirCore® platform beginning March 20, 2001 in booth 651.

TECORE will unveil strategy for both 2.5G and 3G networks on the AirCore platform. Accounting for such variables as market, economy and consumer demand, the AirCore platform provides a controlled migration as operators move their networks from a primarily voice-centric 2G network to the more data-centric and convergent operations provided in 2.5G and 3G networks. Through the addition of software and minimal hardware, the current AirCore platform, operating as a second-generation system today, can expand (at the operator's pace) to support the interfaces and functions of the 2.5G and 3G network. The platform presented today offers a GPRS-based home location register (HLR). Support for the Serving GPRS Support Node (SGSN) and Gateway GPRS Support Node (GGSN) functions will be available later this year.

The AirCore platform combines all of the capabilities of a network switching subsystem (NSS) with support for high-speed data and IP protocols in a compact package and can be deployed in a variety of applications.

Through its flagship AirCore platform, TECORE's switching innovations enable carriers to offer new, revenue-producing services while reducing operating expenses and capital outlay costs. These next-generation switching solutions will enable carriers to further expand into Internet and broadband transport mediums for voice, data and SS7 network.

TECORE's innovative switching solutions on display here include:

AirCore platform — The AirCore platform is the only switching solution that offers operators the capability to simultaneously provide multiple technologies such as GSM, CDMA, TDMA and AMPS. Using the AirCore platform, operators can capitalize on additional roaming opportunities that will expand the profitability of their networks. AirCore can be configured with all or with a specific group of interfaces that can be expanded cost-effectively at a later time. The AirCore platform supports the mobile switching center (MSC), visitor location register (VLR) and HLR functionality required for GSM and ANSI-41 operation. It features an authentication center (AuC), an operation and maintenance center (OMC), wireline and tandeming service, and hot billing and prepaid services — important functions for operators in smaller markets. AirCore GPRS HLR — TECORE's software-defined AirCore platform will enable global service providers to offer their customers such multiple enhanced communications services as high-speed data transmission, videoconferencing, wireless Internet and mobile commerce. The AirCore GPRS HLR can be integrated into existing AirCore GSM switching platforms as well as be used as a stand-alone product in GPRS/GSM networks. The AirCore GPRS HLR overlays onto existing GPRS/GSM networks and is available for immediate delivery. It supports multiple data profiles per subscriber, is scalable from 100 subscribers to 1 million subscribers and features a compact size.

GSM ANSI-136 Interoperability Team (GAIT) support — TECORE announces the availability of GAIT interworking between GSM and ANSI-41 networks. GAIT provides a definition of the interoperability between GSM and ANSI-41 networks. These functions are integrated as a software package on the AirCore platform without the need of external equipment. This allows operators to provide network service in their technology of choice while allowing their subscribers to roam to networks of different technologies. The support of the GAIT interoperability is a key component of the network migrations of TDMA and GSM.

Communications Assistance to Law Enforcement Act (CALEA) platform — This product provides call intercept delivery solutions and is supported across all TECORE protocols. This product features seamless integration as part of the AirCore platform; CALEA's technical requirements and FCC punchlist; scalability system capacity; and GUI-control. By simply adding the CALEA license to their existing AirCore platform, TECORE customers can upgrade their systems to provide all these features without the expensive investment into a separate CALEA unit.

TECORE's industry-leading prepaid solution provides real-time debiting for wireless and wireline carriers, including the support of calling cards, debit cards and prepaid cards for additional revenue stream. This prepaid solution can be deployed as an adjunct platform to existing networks or as an integrated part of the AirCore platform.
Corporate Wireless Networks — The AirCore Mobility Server and Gateway enables telecom operators, system integrators and OEM suppliers to target the corporate market with a cost-effective solution. This IP-based architecture dramatically reduces the costs of deploying wireless technology in the corporate environment while maintaining full integration with existing corporate PBX and wireless networks.

Named one of the "20 Firms for the Next Generation," TECORE, Columbia, Md., is a global leader in converging wireless, wireline, IP networks and wireless enterprise systems solutions. TECORE's wireless switching solutions support GSM, CDMA, TDMA, AMPS, GPRS, IP and next-generation technologies.
