TECORE
Unveils GAIT Product for Interoperability Between GSM and TDMA Networks
AirCore® System Among First
to Offer Solution
COLUMBIA, MD, May 30, 2001 - TECORE
, a leading supplier for scalable software-defined switching systems
for the converging wireless and IP networks, today announced the
availability of its new GSM ANSI-136 Interoperability Team (GAIT)
product, which allows seamless interworking of GSM and ANSI-41 networks.
The GAIT capability is integrated on TECORE's flagship AirCore®
system, which currently is the only switching solution to offer
simultaneous MSC functionality for GSM and ANSI-41 systems. This
technology-independent software allows operators to provide network
service utilizing one access technology while allowing their subscribers
to roam seamlessly to networks using the other wireless air interface.
It provides an immediate and cost-effective solution for operators
that are migrating their systems from TDMA to GSM and GPRS while
allowing them to maintain their current subscriber base. Additionally,
current GSM operators can profit from others making this migration
by adding to their own roaming traffic.
"The GAIT extension of the AirCore system is just another example
of the many value-added features we are committed to provide our
customers," said Jay J. Salkini, TECORE's president and CEO.
"AirCore GAIT constitutes a cost-effective way for our customers
to offer this service to their subscribers without the need for
new base stations or a new MSC (mobile switching center). The addition
of this new revenue-generating feature further demonstrates our
focus on the requirements of the smaller operator and their need
to differentiate themselves with creative offerings while minimizing
their cost. Our GAIT solution is ideal not only for domestic operators,
but also for international GSM operators that want to capture TDMA
roaming traffic from North and South American travelers."
"While the handset manufacturers are all racing to develop
a GAIT phone, we wanted to be the first one to offer a GAIT switching
solution," added Shiblie O. Shiblie, TECORE's vice president
of business development. "As with all of our innovative features,
we've deployed GAIT as a software plug-in to the AirCore system
so that operators can add GAIT capability with no need for external
boxes."
The AirCore system combines all of the capabilities of a network
switching subsystem (NSS) with support for high-speed data and IP
protocols in a compact package. The AirCore system is the only switching
solution that offers operators the capability to simultaneously
provide multiple technologies such as GSM, CDMA, TDMA, and AMPS.
Using this system, operators can capitalize on additional roaming
opportunities that will expand the profitability of their networks.
Named one of the "20 Firms for the Next Generation," TECORE,
Columbia, Md., is a global leader in converging wireless and IP
networks and wireless enterprise systems solutions. TECORE's wireless
switching solutions support GSM, CDMA, TDMA, AMPS, GPRS, IP and
next-generation technologies. For more information, please visit
